Becoming a Benefit Company is not a finish line, but a new starting point. AB Mauri Italy has chosen to integrate environmental, social and governance (ESG) objectives into its development model, working on concrete projects to create a sustainable future.
AB Mauri produces baker’s yeast from molasses, which is a co-product of sugar production from sugar beet. At the end of this process another co-product remains, an organic residue derived from fermentation. Far from being considered waste, this co-product is concentrated and used as agricultural fertilizer, returning organic matter to the soil and closing the circle between industry and agriculture: perfect circularity!
AB Mauri’s commitment continues also on the energy and resources front. In the Cologne (BS) plant there is a photovoltaic system, while in Casteggio (PV) high-efficiency cogeneration allows optimizing energy consumption and reducing CO₂ emissions. The company also recovers process water and treats it internally, reducing environmental impact and generating biogas, used to power part of the production cycle.
In AB Mauri’s ESG journey, attention to people and territory is central. Through collaborations with schools and associations and thanks to the active participation of the AB Mauri team in inclusion projects and local fairs and events, with awareness initiatives, the company actively contributes to the vitality of local communities, fostering sustainable growth of the social fabric.
